Volume containing manuscript and printed items relating to the historical development of Chinese characters and calligraphy, probably compiled by the antiquary Francis Douce. Includes a text "on certain old Pitjes" "translated by Francis Douce, Esq.," accompanied by examples of the Chinese characters and an explanation of them in Dutch; twenty leaves of engravings of Chinese characters of varying ages; and a set of engravings of "Chinese antiquities."
